Hey! Here’s some info about me:
Irynka Hromotska is a photo editor and photojournalist based in Ukraine. A recent Fulbright student, she holds an MA in photojournalism from the Missouri School of Journalism.
In her previous role as a staff photo editor for Columbia Missourian, Irynka collaborated with numerous photojournalists, specializing in long-form social justice visual stories. Notably, she curated the "Fighting for Dignity" exhibition, spotlighting the resilience of Ukrainians through the lens of Ukrainian photojournalists. Her MA research delved into the role of photo editors as visual gatekeepers and forces that influence the decision-making in the creation of a visual narrative.
Irynka interned at the Magnum Foundation, contributing to organizational tasks and assisting with the Magnum Photos workshop in New York City. She worked as an assistant photo editor for the FotoEvidence photo book "Ukraine: A War Crime," where she ensured the inclusion of numerous Ukrainian photojournalists and contributed to the editing process.
Her photography work has been featured in multiple media outlets, including Radio Free Europe, Reuters, The New York Times, New Eastern Europe, UNHCR Ukraine, The Guardian, and Al Jazeera.
Since December 2023, Irynka has taken on the role of photo editor at Kyiv Independent, a leading English-language media outlet focused on Ukraine. In her current position, she actively nurtures relationships with photojournalists working in Ukraine and spearheads the advancement of high-quality visual journalism within the realm of news media.
She speaks Ukrainian, English and Polish.
When not working, Irynka enjoys hiking, boxing, or just chilling and binge-watching history-based TV shows.
